If I only have one day, which tour should I pick?
Match the day to your mood. Safari Blue is a full day on Menai Bay with dhow sailing, snorkeling, a sandbank stop and a seafood lunch. If you would rather learn about the island, the Stone Town walking tour and the spice farm cover the old town, the markets and the food. Tell us where you are staying and what you enjoy and we will suggest one.
What is a sensible length of stay for a first visit?
Five to seven days suits most first-timers. That gives you a couple of easy beach days, one sea trip, a day in Stone Town and the spice farm, and space to add a safari if you want one.
What am I actually paying for when I book a tour?
It depends on the tour, and every tour page lists exactly what is included. Most prices cover a guide, entrance and government fees, water and any equipment, and some include lunch. Hotel pickup is available for an extra cost on many day tours.
Can we have a tour just for our family or group?
Yes. Almost every tour can run privately for couples, families and groups. Tell us what you have in mind and how many of you are travelling, and we will quote a private price.
How do we get from the airport or seaport to our hotel?
We run private transfers between Zanzibar airport or the seaport and any hotel on the island, with cars, 9-seat Alphard vans and a 30-seat bus. The transfer page shows the vehicles and the price for your area.
Which months are driest, and does the rain ruin a trip?
June to October and December to February are the driest and sunniest months. The long rains fall in April and May, when the island is greener and quieter, and most tours still run. If the sea is too rough for a boat trip, we may change or postpone it for safety.
Can I see big game without leaving Zanzibar for days?
Yes. Mikumi and Selous (Nyerere) can each be done as a day trip by light aircraft: you fly out in the morning, spend the day on game drives and are back on the island in the evening. Longer safaris reach the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire and Lake Manyara. Flights, park fees and a driver-guide are included in the safari prices.
How do I reserve a trip, and when does it count as confirmed?
Message us on WhatsApp at +255 620 232 711, email info@mosumtours.com or use the booking form. We check availability and confirm the price and pickup time. A booking is confirmed once we have confirmed the service and date and any required deposit has been received and verified.
What happens if the weather or sea is too rough?
Boat trips, snorkeling and other sea activities depend on conditions. If it is unsafe we may change, postpone or cancel the trip. When we cancel and cannot offer a suitable alternative, we talk through the refund or other options with you. You can read the full policy on our booking and cancellation page.
Is swimming with dolphins in Zanzibar ethical?
It can be when it is done carefully. On our Kizimkazi dolphin tour the boat keeps a respectful distance, time near each pod is limited and the dolphins are never chased. You only slip into the water to snorkel when the guide judges it safe and respectful for the animals. They are wild, so sightings are common but never guaranteed.
Can I hire a car or scooter and drive myself around the island?
Yes. Our rental cars cost $30 or $35 a day and the Honda Vario scooter is $10 a day. Visitors need a temporary Zanzibar driving permit as well as their own valid driving licence. We arrange the permit for USD 10, valid for up to 3 months. A scooter also needs a licence with a motorcycle category and a helmet. Traffic drives on the left.
